Intercessory Prayer

INTRODUCTION:

This is a simple OUTLINE – please study all the references and make your own detailed study on Intercessory Prayer.

 It is impossible for a believer, no matter what his experience, to keep right with God if he will not take the trouble to spend time with God. Spend plenty of time with God, let other things go, but don’t neglect Him.

A. SOME MODELS OF INTERCESSORY PRAYER IN THE SCRIPTURES:

i. Abraham’s Prayer – Gen. 18:23-32
ii. Nehemiah’s Prayer – Neh. 1:4-11
iii. Daniel’s Prayer – Dan. 9:3-19
iv. The Apostle Paul’s Prayers:

  •  Eph. 1:15-21; 3:14-21
  •  Phil. 1:9-11 } cf. 2 Thess. 1:11
  •  Col. 1:9-14

B. SOME INSTRUCTIONS ON PRAYER IN THE SCRIPTURES:

i. Pray in Jesus’ Name – Mt 16:23,24
ii. Pray in the Will of God – Mt. 6:10; Jm. 4:1-4
iii. Persist in Prayer – Lk. 18:1ff
iv. Live a Righteous – Life: Jm. 5:16

ii. For Ministers of the Word of God

iii. Pray for the Sick – James 5:14
iv. For Everybody – 1 Tim. 2:1

D. A PRACTICAL GUIDE FOR REGULAR INTERCESSION:

M onday — Pray for Missionaries
T uesdays — Pray for Those you are Witnessing to
W ednesdays — Pray for fellow Workers
T hursdays — Pray for Those in Authority
F ridays — Pray for Family
S aturdays — Pray for the Sick
S undays — Pray for Saints

CONCLUSION:

  • Ezekiel 22:30: “And I searched for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.”
  • Jesus our greatest Example of an Intercessor: John 17

We should pray when we are in a praying mood, for it would be sinful to neglect so fair an opportunity. We should pray when we are not in a proper mood, for it would be dangerous to remain in so unhealthy a condition.
