Questionnaire for Evaluating Your Commitment to the Local Church

I am not sure of how many years of “successful” membership or attendance you have completed at your local church but I think it is very important for you to evaluate your “performance” as a member of your local Church.

The following questionnaire is to assist you in doing this. You are advised to fill this up and evaluate yourself. The results are “for your eyes-only” but before God you will need to take some remedial steps as you see areas where your commitment is below expectation.

All Scripture references should be studied in their context — because of space only their bare essence is quoted below.

  1. The bible says: not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as ye see the day drawing nigh (Heb. 10:25).
  • I am attending Worship Services on Sunday without fail.
  • I always come on time for all meetings
  • I also attend a weekly Home Fellowship Home Group
  • I actively participate in prayer and discussions

  1. The bible says: with all prayer and supplication praying at all seasons in the Spirit, and watching thereunto in all perseverance and supplication for all the saints (Eph. 6:18). There are many more exhortations to pray in scripture. Someone has said that prayer is the barometer of the spiritual life and your personal and corporate prayer life may reveal you are not very healthy.
  • I have a regular personal prayer life
  • I meet with ________________ for times of special prayer
  • I love to praying for others
  • I look forward to the corporate times of prayer
  • I don’t attend times of prayer at church.

  1. The bible says: Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. For if a man thinketh himself to be something when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself (Gal. 6:2,3).
  • I am accountable to someone at church for living a life pleasing to God in all things.
  • I have decided to be specifically accountable to ________________________
  • I resent anyone correcting me and holding me accountable

  1. The bible says: Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I gave order to the churches of Galatia, so also do ye. 2Upon the first day of the week let each one of you lay by him in store, as he may prosper (1 Cor. 16:1,2). Let each man do according as he hath purposed in his heart: not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. (2 Cor. 9:7).
  • I understand that God owns everything I am and have. I am what I am by the grace of God.
  • I plan my giving and give regularly to meet the needs of the Lord’s work undertaken by my local church.
  • I am very inconsistent in my giving and give without any plan or budgeting.
  • I am not generous in my giving.
  • I give to several charities and organizations and my local church is one among many groups that I contribute to.

These are just a few items for you to evaluate your involvement at your local church.  We are taught that “Church” is not a building or an Institution. Nor is the Church just the leadership — the Pastor and the Elders only. The Church is not just a few faithful but all those who are born-again. In the local church, that means all are part of the local church, whether members or regular attendees and are responsible to be actively involved, being accountable to the leadership.

TEAM ministry is important. Meeting together to study and pray is also important. It is equally important to be present and get the meetings organized ahead of time. Eph. 4:16 speaks of “each part (of the body) doing its part” for growth to take place. Unfortunately, there is a tendency, as time moves on, to slacken off and shift the burden on a few faithful. Remember, the bible also says, “in diligence not slothful; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord” (Rom. 12:11).
